Oceanid Programme
Background
Helping women help the ocean
Open to women aged 18 to 23, the Oceanid programme offers unmatched
action-learning experiences that develop personal skills and professional
competences.
Drawing on the inspiring and healing properties of the ocean to build self-worth, humility, and
resilience, the Oceanid programme is a rewarding and intense training that equips the students to
take on future leadership roles in seafaring professions.
Designed to develop the student as a whole-person , the Oceanid programme offers a stimulating and
supportive environment to complete the intense 13-month syllabus. Unlike other maritime education,
the programme blends several disciplines and learning methods to create memorable
learning-in-action moments.
Trained by thematic experts and qualified professionals, supported by dedicated tutors and coaches, and
mentored by a network of international host families, the Oceanid students are empowered to fulfil their
true potential and provided with:
• The experience and qualifications of Yachtmaster Ocean for vessels < 24m;
• The technical knowledge of Master of vessels < 200gt, or OOW on yachts < 500gt;
• The foundational understanding of issues affecting ocean and women in maritime;
• The personal skills essential for effective career progression in the maritime;
• The advocacy message and mindset to promote ocean protection.
As the Oceanid programme provides a personalized learning and caring environment, it is also suited for
women who need specific support in the face of life difficulties .
For underprivileged students from the global south who cannot afford the full programme fee, the
Women+Sea initiative offers some scholarships. [Learn more]

Are you looking for an extraordinary opportunity that will kick-start your career on
the high-seas?
Our oceans are in peril. Our seas are rising. Coral reefs are dying, and other important habitats have
been destroyed. More women are needed to change the fate of the ocean and the face of the maritime
workforce. This is your opportunity to make a difference while fulfilling your potential.
In 2021 Women+Sea is piloting its Oceanid Programme with an initial group of young women interested
to transform their lives with a career at sea and keen to share their own learning experience to
improve the programme design. For this Women+Sea will offer scholarships to two candidates who
show great potential.
